Villingen-Schwenningen/Germany, 2 February 2012. VDO is once again running its familiar 3+1 promotion on the sale of genuine tachograph accessories this year. Customers who meet their annual requirements now with the purchase of three packets of tachograph disks, three packets of printer paper or a DTCO dispenser (printer paper, cleaning cloths and cleaning cards) will receive a small gift. This year, it is a practical stopwatch which VDO did not choose merely by coincidence. In fact, the gift reflects the main new change which was introduced to the transport industry along with the new generation 1.4 of the digital tachograph in the summer of 2011: the "1 minute rule". Under the motto of "every minute counts", this rule states that the longest activity within any given minute determines whether the minute is classed as working time or rest time. This allows drivers to save valuable drive time behind the wheel, particularly in distribution applications, in traffic jams or when waiting in line for customs processing when the vehicle is often only moved for a few seconds and is stationary for long periods.
This year, the slogan "every minute counts" not only applies to the optimized functions of the new DTCO but also to the "3+1" packages. That is because, although the sales promotion is running throughout Europe and in all important export markets for the whole of 2012, the stopwatches are only available while stocks last. Our partners not only supply the conventional tachograph disks. Since the introduction of the digital tachograph, VDO also supplies our partners with the printer paper for the verification printouts which are required for recording driving times and rest periods. This special paper, which was specially developed for use in vehicles, can be used not only in the digital tachographs of VDO but is in fact suitable for all digital tachographs thanks to its standardized format and specially defined properties. The paper is more than capable of handling the tough day-to-day conditions of the transport sector: it is resistant to temperature fluctuations between -20 and +70 degrees centigrade and is also protected against moisture, oil and grease by a special protective film on the front.
