DTCO 2.1 active: new evolutionary development affords greater efficiency and comfort in vehicle operation

Villingen-Schwenningen, October 02nd, 2013. VDO has added important functions to its Digital Tachograph 2.0. The new model, the DTCO 2.1, offered in the retrofit market with the affix “active”, in conjunction with a GPS module, now can continuously save position data and take idle times on ferries or during rail transport into account. “DTCO 2.1 active is the next rung on the evolutionary ladder and further improves the effectiveness and efficiency of fleet management with new functional modes,” explains Dr. Michael Ruf, head of the Commercial Vehicles & Aftermarket Business Unit at Continental, to which the VDO brand belongs.
The DTCO 2.1 active has a higher performance capability than previous models. Through its combination with the GPS module VDO GeoLoc, the latest generation of the digital tachograph is now able to save position data continuously and link the data with events. In conjunction with the VDO download solutions this information can be downloaded and serves the fleet management system TIS WEB as a basis for mapping services. Without wasting time the fleet manager can respond even better and in more detail to current changes in traffic.
In addition, DTCO 2.1 active also offers dynamic new display modes. For example, the driver now is actively reminded of the end of his break periods. This function allows users to make full, effective use of their breaks. An improved country entry function appreciably simplifies entries in the system, making for additional time savings before and after a trip. Another change concerns the optional VDO Counter, which displays driving and rest times to the driver in graphical form. The VDO Counter function “Ferry/Train" has been expanded and now also can take the times run up during idle periods aboard ferries or during rail transport into account. Thanks to this extension, drivers can plan their driving and rest times even more efficiently.The DTCO 2.1 active incorporates all the innovations of the DTCO 2.0 platform, such as the so-called 1-minute rule, and, needless to say, complies with the latest requirements of EU legislation.
